How to change screen resolution in kubuntu 8.04

Please tell me how to change screen resolution to 1024*768.
    By default it's 800*600.

    I have tried this :

system settings -> monitor & display , I found resolution there but it says i need root access to change settings there.

I may be wrong on this, but I believe in the system settings panel there is a button in the bottom left that you select to change the settings manager to root mode.

I vaguely remember something to that effect in KDE from running Slackware, but that may have only been in the networking section.

Do you have your video card drivers installed? What video card do you have?

I did not manually install any driver. Is it necessary ? Normally when I used gnome , drivers installed automatically.

Please help, I hate these big icons
