8.04 on Sony Vaio: Intel 945GM not working good

    Hi there,

I've just upgraded my Vaio VGN-N150F to Ubuntu 8.04 and noticed the screen looks blurred, desktop effects cannot be enabled and I cannot set a resolution higher than 1024x768.

Video card is a standard Intel 945GM

Been digging through several forums I heard of a git bug, a driver problem, etc, all waiting to be fixed.

Do you think there is some workaround I can apply until the problem gets solved?

    Thanks,

    arsanchez74

I'm still running Gutsy on my HP dv5000, which has Intel 945GMA video and a 1280x800 screen, but I have tested it with the Hardy live CD and it appears to work OK. Have you tried installing 915resolution via Synaptic? I have always needed 915resolution on this laptop to get the proper screen resolution.

I have the same chipset and gfx card like you.

No problem what so ever. Works straight from the LiveCD.
I have reinstalled hardy quite a few times after testing around, and, the gfx has always worked right out of the box.
no tweak, no fiddling, no special settings whatsoever.

You must have a dodgy install, me thinks.

    Whats your output of?
    Code:
     glxinfo | grep direct
Sony VAIO SZ4 - Limited edition

MS DOS since 5.0, Windows since 3.11, Linux since kernel 2.6, OS-X since 10.4,
and, last but not least, MS Minesweeper since 1.0
