    Searching for network server

So now when I boot up my desktop gives me a window on top of a beige background that is searching for local server and then fails. It won't let me do anything except search for local server. What's up with that and how do I get past it? I can get into terminal but I don't know enough to clear this hurdle. I'm turning in for the night. Hopefully tomorrow brings new insight.

No options come up it just goes straight to that. I went ahead and uninstalled but now I can't get my LiveCD to work so I re-downloaded the ISO but I have no way for Windows to read the ISO anymore (I got rid of the bulky Roxio program I had).
