    Sound won't play through speakers

I used Alsa and that didn't work, so i swaped over to OSS and I think it setup properbly. I run the command ossxmix and it shows a volume control window. I then play a movie and the lines go up and down, so noise is coming out. The sound used to work so the drivers should be ok and i have windows on the computer and i can hear in that. So I think there is some wrong configuration. What should I do?

please check that the speakers are not muted then go to the mixer (by double clicking the speaker icon) check the setting there to make sure that PCM and Master Volume are up
