I think it is because of all the servers and computers running there?
My garage is the 2nd coolest location in the house (without AC).. the basement is the 1rst. Both of them are "blow grade level" (1 or more sides is under ground level so that keeps it cool... except with all of the computers running ... )

In response to the garage stuff, I suppose I could run a whole ton of desktops in there in the middle of winter and it'd be warm enough to have a LAN party.
