Cool Simple Instructions for Getting a Mac-style Menu Bar (Global Menu)

    Hi,
I am new to Ubuntu and I am running Hardy on a 64 bit AMD Turion. Could someone please give me beginners directions on installing a menu bar that changes as different windows are opened (like a Mac)? All I can find are difficult and confusing threads, and I just need simple step-by-step directions. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think you mean a dock?

Open Synaptic package manager and search for cairo-dock, mark it for installation, run from menu.

CD is in Intrepid but not in Hardy, so have a look on the wiki :

Re: Simple Instructions for Getting a Mac-style Menu Bar (Global Menu)

I mean the menu bar that is constantly displayed at the top of the screen (and it changes depending on the program(s) that are in use). Every time I follow a tutorial I always get screwed up in the Terminal somehow or other. Is there just a simple program/applet that can be downloaded?
    Thanks!

So what you want to do is go here to download Ubuntu-Tweak, then, once it is installed, you will need to run it and search for "Global Menu Applet".

Once the applet is installed, right click on an empty space in your gnome panel and choose "add applet" then search for "Global Menu Applet".

One thing I have noticed is that it does not seem to truly emulate the Mac style of the bar, due to the fact that I do not see the active window menu in the bar, just the title of the currently focused window.

Let me know what you find, and if you need any more help.
