The open effect of compiz on some applications doesn't work or it's really messed up. either it doesn't animate or does just a little bit.

Apps like firefox and amarok are the worst. Smaller windows, like the calculator, animate fine.

The problem is with the open animation. Minimise and close seem to work fine.

Any ideas why this could be happening?
