How can I find out if a webcam will work with Ubuntu?

I recently bought an expensive webcam for $120, but it does not work on Ubuntu in Firefox's Flash (a website that uses Flash to stream webcam feeds, i.e. Stickam, Justin.tv, Blog.tv, etc.) but it works perfectly fine on software such as camorama, gqcam, kopete, ekiga, etc. but I don't care about that; I want it to work on Flash so I can stream on websites such as the ones I listed.

How can I find out if a webcam works in this way before I waste a lot of money on one?

Since in works everywhere except Flash, I assume that it is V4L2 camera. Flash 9 does not recognise V4L2 cameras, but Flash 10 does. You can install the beta if you want (Flash 10 is in beta phase right now). Just search the forums here for a how-to; there is one. Or ask here for any help regarding this.

    Thanks for the reply.

I finally got Flash 10 correctly installed (beta 3), and the video is no longer completely black, but it is just lines of random colors, so it still doesn't show any video correctly.

I guess this webcam just doesn't like Linux

Is there a list somewhere of confirmed webcams that do work in this fashion that I want it to so I can buy a new one?
