External monitor + Intel GC + Compiz

    Hello,

I'm running a laptop with an Intel GC, and I often (at work and at home) plug an external monitor via the VGA port. The resolution is higher on my external screens.

    The problem is:
    - xrandr does not seem to work well
    - so I have to restart GDM to have a correct resolution
    - But the same resolution is applied to my laptop. So the laptop screen is unusable (I only see the top left of my screen on it, the other part are shrinked)
    - If I use 3D desktop effects which use most of the screen, all the part that is "covered" by my laptop monitor is like "not transformed". Hard to explain actually. I've uploaded a screenshot of the zoom effect, but I have the same problem with "Cover" for example.
    - Obviously, I can't get a "real" dual-scree, ie a shared space, not just clonning.

Hey, Intel drivers are free, and we have been promized that randr would fix all our headhakes? So what?
Yeah, it is better, but not perfect.
I would be glad if someone could give me a solution, I have found nothing anywhere about that? Am I the only one?

I have tested Compiz on eeepc 2GS and 900 (with Ubuntu 8.04). In particular, when using the cube, there is a residual top left hand corner of the screen that is offset.

Another example of this is when gksudo shows an authentication window. As you can see, the part where both screens share a common area is darker.

Yeah, I get the same symptoms too!

    Hurra, I'm not alone!
