The Ubuntu Forums have grown tremendously over the years. While we regret that we are discontinuing our Other OS Talk category, this gives us an opportunity to help other Linux distributions grow by directing traffic to the websites of these distributions.

Here is a list of the official websites for the operating systems that used to have individual forums here. We hope you are able to find further assistance from there. And finally, if you haven't yet found what you are looking for, we suggest you look for information on the DistroWatch website or you might try the multi-distribution LinuxQuestions forum.

Making your own custom Linux distro image/live cd.

Many people would like to make a customised version of Ubuntu or other Linux distro. It is possible and not that hard, however, you'll have to do it yourself.

Posting your ideas isn't going to get anything done; you will have to make the effort to make them happen. That being said, here are some guides and sites on making various custom images. Each link will bring you to somewhere you can get information. It is up to you to decide which one to use.

Please suggest more links, I am just getting this started.

Reconstructor:

I never got the hang of remastersys, whereas I was actually able to burn a CD with reconstructor that got as far as the "try/install/memtest/whatever" menu before having a kernel panic!

I've tried remastersys - it looks promising, but I haven't managed to successfully install from the disks it creates. I might check out reconstructor some time.....

For custimizing PClinuxOS 2007 and 2008 it comes with a live cd tool.
I think its a spin off of Remastersys.
I do not know how it works because I have not tried it yet.
