Screen goes blank momentarily

My screen goes blank momentarily...and then comes back to where I was and continues.....it used to happen only infrequently but it is now getting more common.

I cannot access the System>Administration>syslog...it just hangs...

I know if I reboot it will be ok.....until the next time....I cannot see anything in the syslog which might point to the fault.....I do get a number of segfaults related to Firefox...not sure if they are connected.

What graphics card are you using? This sometimes happens on nvidia laptop cards.
