For the life of me, I cannot get my sound to work with MPlayer. I have previously been using either Totem or VLC to play movies, but I downloaded MPlayer based on what I heard about it.
I am using an old Soundblaster Live card (because onboard sound died on me and I needed a cheap fix). I was actually amazed that Ubuntu picked it up on install.
It is being configured with Alsa mixer yet in MPlayer, if I choose alsa it doesnt work. I've gone through each open and tried it - Restarting MPlayer each time. A few times it screwed MPlayer up and I couldn;t open it without freezing. It finally fixed and I am able to get back in, but I can't get sound to work at all.
I guess I'll be fine with VLC or Totem, but I did like the interface of MPlayer and really would like to use it.

EDIT. I just realized its not that sound doesn't work with MPlayer, it is that my sound ONLY works in Totem.
Sound configured in System>Preferences>Sound is Multichannel. That is the only setting that works correctly.
