Yesterday's automatic updates of the following components broke the wireless on my HP Compaq 6720s laptop with Broadcom BCM 4310 chipset (wl driver):
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-19-generic (2.6.24.13-19.42) to 2.6.24.13-19.44
linux-restricted-modules-common (2.6.24.13-19.42) to 2.6.24.13-19.44
I have confirmed this behaviour on 2 different laptops, and 3 Hardy 8.04 installs.
I originally had this problem 6 days ago when these updates first appeared in the "Hardy-Proposed" repository. However, I disabled that repo and was able to roll back both of these components (Synaptic>Package>Force Version) and easily get things working again.
However, now that the same has happened today when these updates were sent out in the "Hardy-Updates" repo, I can't roll back "linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-19-generic (2.6.24.13-19.42) to 2.6.24.13-19.44" because "Force Version" is greyed out.
Unfortunately at the moment, my only home Internet access is via a community wireless cloud (I'm sending this from my local coffee shop!) so I'm a bit stuck with getting this working again...
Has anyone got any ideas as to where I should go from here? And out of curiosity, are there any other "victims" out there with Broadcom 4310 cards? Is this something I should report as a "bug"?
Best regards to all,
