Question Vista to Ubuntu - Boot disk not getting detected

    Hello,

I am a new forum user and probably future Ubuntu user. But I have a small problem:

When I start up the PC, I put in my Ubuntu boot disk in (I extracted from the free ISO file) the drive.

But for some Reason, it's not getting detected. I tried to run the boot disk thing but it still wont work.

    Can anyone help me?

It is Windows Vista Home Premium by the way

One, you do not extract the iso; it is burned to CD as an iso image. Also, have you checked the md5sum of the iso once downloaded to ensure it is not corrupted?

Burn it as an iso image; then boot, and let the software take over.

I only have the trial version of MagicISO - it wont let me burn iso files larger than 300mb.

http://psychocats.net/ubuntu/iso has a link so you can get Infrarecorder by which you may burn the iso.

There are loads of free CD/DVD Burners that are available, to the limit on MagicISO isnt a problem.
I would personally recommend DeepBurner which is the best burner I've ever used.
Burning the iso using this program is as easy as opening the program, selecting from the initial screen to burn an iso to the disk, then finding the file and clicking "Burn".

Not to worry, I got the boot disk thing sorted.
I am going to make a recovery disk for my current Vista OS before I install Ubuntu.

    Thanks for the help
