How to activate a built in webcam

The webcam on my Acer 7720 laptop has been recognised and I'm able to use it with Skype. How do how do I activate the webcam when not using Skype please.

At a terminal, type:

sudo apt-get install cheese

Then run Applications->Graphics->Cheese
