    Kubuntu Desktop problems

I just installed this morning and while the updates were running there was a power outage. My wife blow-drying her hair with the AC running tripped a breaker.

Anyway, I can boot back up and choose KDE as my session and I get the same wallpaper I had and the widget application in the top right corner. But, I don't have a taskbar, start button etc. How can I restart the kmenu and panels?

    I'm using the KDM-kde4 desktop.

    Re: Kubuntu Desktop problems

I am thinking that this is not a problem from the power outage. As I had no such power issue and have the same thing happen to my setup. One thing I did notice is that while I was running an update the update process got stuck at Generating new SSL something, so I killed whitetail<sp?> and it continued to work ok and seemingly finish the update. But upon reboot I was presented with the same desktop you were, no panel. Have to say KDE4 looks pretty but is barely useful at all! What a mess.

Have you tried removing or renaming the .kde4 directory?
