    Arcade Monitor 15khz? MAME/Lincade/arcadeVGA

I'm trying to restore a cabinet and put MAME in it. I'm told that you need ArcadeVGA for the arcade monitors, but I'm reading that you don't need it for Linux and that you can get the 15khz and I was wondering if anybody has any experience with arcade monitors with ubuntu?

Anybody using lincade? It seems like a nice distro, except seems like it's a little behind.

If anybody is running MAME on Ubuntu?

Right now I'm on my desktop with an LCD running wah!cade for the frontend and really loving it

Yes, it is possible I managed it with an ATI Radeon card and a Matrox MGA 200 card. The one extra piece of hardware I purchased was a J-PAC (http://www.ultimarc.com/jpac.html), this is basically a device that helps hook up the joystick & buttons to save the hassle of hacking-up a keyboard. It also (I understand) filters out the incorrect monitor frequencies so you don't end up destroying your lovely CRT.

Oh, I had to hack the Matrox driver in order to get it to run at the required lower monitor refresh rate.

For the OS, I used debian net-install, so it's a very lean install. The frontend I use advancemame.

It's the best games machine I've ever owned.

There are places that sell arcade monitors, just google arcade crt.
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=92551.0 this thread has links to a few manufacturers.

You get single sync, double sync, tri-sync & multisync monitors.

If you just want a 15kHz crt many people simply use crt televisions. Depending on where you live go for one with Component or RGB/SCART input as it will give you a much better picture than composite or s-video. Get a graphics card that offers the same type off output. My XFX 9600 GT came with a Component Out Y Pr Pb adapter but I'm not sure if it does 15 kHz although I suspect it does seeing it gets connected to the same port as the s-video cable.
