ESD on, Totem has sound, Amarok&VLC does not

When I enable system sounds ESD (System->Preferences->Sound), I lose sound in Amarok and VLC, but not in Totem. All of them uses ALSA. Is there any way to get the sound in VLC and Amarok?
Thanks, don' like Gnome. <-- sig from 2006

Thanks to Ubuntu, I like GNOME now!!!

You can change the soundoutput of VLC in the preferences. Set it to ESD and try if it works.
Try the same with amarok (with xine-backend) and choose ESD aswell.
