    [SOLVED] OGG sound completely distorted

I was completely surprised when I didn't find anyone else with the same problem on here, but I searched pretty thoroughly. If this is a repeat, I'm sorry.

Whenever I play OGG files on my computer, they're extremely distorted, to the point they sound almost like very loud white noise. I might catch a small glint of a song in the file, if I'm lucky. This is regardless of what program I'm using. They're distored when played by the system (if chosen for startup sound, logout sound, etc) or when played in Amarok, VLC, Totem, etc. All of the .ogg files I've tried playing so far are the ones that came with my distro. I have no problems playing any other sounds or media files, only OGG.

My first instinct is somehow my OGG codecs are corrupted. Is there a way to uninstall/reinstall OGG codecs? That is, without also uninstalling anything that may be dependent on them.

I'm using Hardy Heron (64 bit) on a Linux Certified LC2464DC Laptop running a Mobile AMD Sempron 3200+ processor at 1.6 GHz (Dynamic speed 800Mhz/1.6GHz) I have 1 GB of RAM. It has an onboard ATI RS485MC (Radeon Xpress 1100 IGP) graphics card, and onboard ATI IXP SB4x0 HD soundcard. (I didn't even know ATI made soundcards until I got this laptop)

    KInfoCenter Sound shows:
Sound Driver: 3.8.1a-980706 ALSA v1.0.16 emulation code

    Re: OGG sound completely distorted

Strangely, a little while back my OGG files spontaneously just started working. I don't know if it was an automatic update that fixed it or what, but I'm not having the problem anymore.
