Installing desklets

Hi !

Since I'm new to linux and wanna configure it a bit, I had a question for you.

You do I install desklets ( desktop gadgets ) on linux ?

I downloaded the tar.gz file, from here http://www.gnome-look.org/content/sh...?content=69519

but then ?

Any help ?

And by the way, how do i install xmms once i downloaded it from the website ?

It's there, as a tar.gz file on my desktop, but what now ?

This appears to be an add on for the Screenlets application not gdesklets. The easiest way to install screenlets is through your Synaptic Package Manager (System/Administration/Synaptic Package Manager). Once installed open the Screenets Manager and drag and drop your tar.gz file tothe manager and it should install.

Again much easier to install XMMS2 through Synaptic.. Just do a search for XMMS2 and install.

use add/remove to install things.

go into applications add/remove, select on the top "all available applications" and search for the application you want.

for desklets, you will need to install a aplication called "gdesklets"

you dont need to download anything, almost everything you will want will be in ubuntu repositories,

go into applications>add/remove then on the top, selecd show "all available applications" then search for xmms and check box it, then click on apply, it will automaticly install
