I am not so sure how to answer your first question, sorry, but for the emulator,
theres always WINE, to install it just follow the instructions here

    Hope that helped

yes you did and thank you. basically whats happening with the internet is, well, im on a laptop and its not picking up wireless signals as quick as it used to, and i cant seem to download my updates, i select them, try and download em, and then it sits on the screen forever. thats really the best way i can describe it.

Then update APT's package information by running 'sudo apt-get update'.

    sudo apt-get update
It checks for any updates for your computer and programs.
Type that into the terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal)
    It'll ask you something like:
    [sudo] password for <your username>:
Just enter your password, It wont show what your typing in the terminal because its your password

ok thanks, does anyone know what i can do about installing all the updates. they simply wont. i select the ones to install but, well, ya know the little box that comes up ad says "are you sure?" and the screen gets shaded, well the little box wont show up but the box with the list in it shades and stops there and doesnt show the install progress or any evidence of installing, should i try to do a few at a time?
