    Cool does this seem right?

OK I just got lm-sensors working and when I type sensors -f in the terminal I get

    dme1737-i2c-0-2e
Adapter: SMBus PIIX4 adapter at 3010
    V5stby: +0.00 V (min = +0.00 V, max = +6.64 V) ALARM

    CPU Temp: +116.8°F (low = -196.6°F, high = +260.6°F)
    cpu0_vid: +1.088 V

NOTE the CPU Temp: +116.8 is this correct? my low according to this app says +169.6 and a high of +260.6? I don't get it? I am currently running my comp in a very dangeous way; no thermal past just a penny I under stand the need for proper cooling materials but I can not afford as I don't have money. The proccessor is a 3.0GHz P4 w/HT running at 3.0GHz. Please spare me the lecture on using thermal compound I am currently saveing up for a tube. And I can't turn off my comp cuz I need it to learn web design, and I don't have a nother available comp to use at the moment.

    Thanx
    Craig

116F is 46C which, for that chip, is just fine.
Don't try to make something "fast" until you are able to quantify "slow".

Thermal paste is pretty cheap. $1.99 USD ( I hope this is not considered spam
as that is not my intent. )

    Re: does this seem right?

Well sorry for not replying I was getting the wireless connection at my dad's work up and his boss thinks he knows every thing, but he doesn't. Thank you for the info bothe of you, it's good to know I am running with in normal temps for my chip, and where can I get the past beside on the net. You see I don't have a credit/debit card, I need to goto a store. Do you think a place like staples would have some for that price?

    Thanx again
    Craig.

Talking Re: does this seem right?

They take checks, but just about any mom and pop shop that builds will sell you the stuff for about that price and no shipping. ( Hell, I've had one shop give me little packets of OEM paste that they just throw away. )

Just because it is for a computer doesn't mean it's gotta be expensive.

If your temps are normal,.. well, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

    Re: does this seem right?

The first computer I built from scratch I got all the parts from the net and found I had no thermal paste, I went to a local mom and pop computer repair shop, told them what I needed and they got out a plastic baggy and gave me a little gob to take home, free of charge.

Anyway like previous poster said, it won't cost much, less than a latte at starbucks if you have to pay at all.

    GL and have fun learning.
