    [SOLVED] Has anyone got Hauppauge HVR 1600 working?

    I read lots of older post stating that Hauppauge HVR 1600 does not work on Ubuntu. So, has anyone more recently had any success with it on Hardy?

    This is from the Hauppauge website:
    Linux support for the WinTV-HVR-1600
    Linux support for the WinTV-HVR-1600 is in the upcoming kernel 2.6.26 release.

    Also, there is WinTV-HVR-1600 Linux support for both the analog TV tuner and the digital TV tuner available at LinuxTV.ORG in the "cx18" section.

    I saw this info about an hour ago and was going to post it but you beat me to it. Good job.

    So, does this mean that the HVR-1600 will be easier to get going or does it mean the it will be automatically detected and operational?

    No idea. Hopefully someone else can answer that, because I want an HVR card, but I am waiting for a definite yes or no on if they work or not.

    Re: Has anyone got Hauppauge HVR 1600 working?

    I decided to try to install the driver for Hauppauge HVR 1600.
    Below is the record of what I have done and what happened. I did not finish the installation as you will see. I don't know what my next step is, or if I am doing things correctly so far.

    Installing driver for Hauppauge HVR-1600
    ------------------------------

    All information came from this site:
    http://www.ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Cx18

    I obtained driver from this site:
    http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb/archive/tip.tar.bz2

    Downloaded file was saved to /home/daryl/temporary/v4l-dvb-398b07fdfe79.tar.bz2

    I created a directory at /home/daryl/temporary/unpacked.
    This is where I extracted the files to.
    The resulting path is:
    /home/daryl/temporary/unpacked/v4l-dvb-398b07fdfe79

    Open terminal and type cd /home/daryl/temporary/unpacked/v4l-dvb-398b07fdfe79
    Now type "make menuconfig". I got an error, so I typed "make".
    The output was a huge list of files (modules?) and this message:

    make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24-17-generic'
    ./scripts/rmmod.pl check
    found 221 modules
    make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/daryl/temporary/unpacked/v4l-dvb-398b07fdfe79/v4l'.

    Now I type "make install" and this is the output:

    daryl@ubuntu:~/temporary/unpacked/v4l-dvb-398b07fdfe79$ make install

    make -C /home/daryl/temporary/unpacked/v4l-dvb-398b07fdfe79/v4l install
    make[1]: Entering directory `/home/daryl/temporary/unpacked/v4l-dvb-398b07fdfe79/v4l'
    Stripping debug info from files
    -e
    Removing obsolete files from /lib/modules/2.6.24-17-generic/kernel/drivers/media/video:
    mt20xx.ko rm: remove write-protected regular file `/lib/modules/2.6.24-17-generic/kernel/drivers/media/video/mt20xx.ko'?

    I don't no where to go from here. Any help is appreciated.

    Re: Has anyone got Hauppauge HVR 1600 working?

    I read somewhere that I should install package "build-essential". I did this and whether it was my problem or not I do not know, but I then managed to accomplish Unpack, 'make menuconfig', 'make', 'make install' (as root), 'make unload' (as root) and run 'modprobe cx18'.

    If you have trouble with any of the above commands, just try using "sudo". I needed to use sudo for "make menuconfig" and "modprobe cx18".

    The next instructions are as follows:

    The firmware needs to be extracted from the Windows Hauppauge HVR-1600 driver, available here:

    http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/softw...e_cd_3.4d1.zip

    Unzip, then copy the following files to the firmware directory and rename them as follows:

    Drivers/Driver18/hcw18apu.rom -> v4l-cx23418-apu.fw
    Drivers/Driver18/hcw18enc.rom -> v4l-cx23418-cpu.fw
    Drivers/Driver18/hcw18mlC.rom -> v4l-cx23418-dig.fw

    I do not know where to find the firmware directory. Can anyone help me?

    EDIT::
    I think that this firmware directory is refering to /lib/firmware/2.6.24-17-generic. Can someone please verify this?

    Assuming this is correct, I have so far been unable to copy the files. If this is incorrect, its a good thing I have been unable to copy the files.

    Is anyone listening?

    Re: Has anyone got Hauppauge HVR 1600 working?

    I think you found the correct path for your firmware files.
    In order to copy them there you have to be root.

    Please post the output of modprobe cx18

    If your tv-card is working you may try out this frontend.
