    ripping cds to mp3

Q: are there any apps that allow the user to set up their mp3 encoding preferences with a gui rather than grappling with command line arguments for lame?

Try Asunder or Soundjuicer. I know Asunder is in the repos - search with Synaptic. Personally I quite like Asunder - does ogg and flac too.
I laughed, I cried, I jumped with joy. I was here before Killroy. 8)

Grip works quite nicely - and I seem to remember it allows you to do this. The interface is a little odd, but works well.

Ah, asunder did the trick. A simple slider. Thanks

sound juicer has a nice name and look, but it seems crazy a novice linuxist like ubuntu is designed to attract has to dive into the eccentricities of the LAME commandline just because he wants to specify a bitrate.

    thanks for the help.
