Need a wife friendly method of connecting via wireless and cable

Just bought a homeplug network extender so that the laptop can be used upstairs plugged in via a network cable as the wireless signal is pretty dead up there.

Is there an easy way under Ubuntu of disabling the wireless access (currently set as eth0) and enabling the cabled connection (eth0) that I can show to her indoors so that it picks up an IP address from my router so she can access the internet?

Currently I do ifdown eth0 and ifup eth1 in the terminal and it works fine

Just click on the Network Manager icon (signal bars) scroll down to the wired connection and click on that. Is that the answer to your question?
