I recently installed an update to Hardy that required a reboot. I can't remember what the update was, but after reboot, I get a desktop screen (i.e. hardy wallpaper), but I don't get any menu bars on the top and bottom of the screen. Other desktop services such as VNC do start, just no menu bars.

Did anyone else experience this and know how to fix it? To complicate matters, I'm not around my machine - I usually VNC into the desktop (which is how I know VNC still loads) or SSH into a command line.

I saw this post, but Alt+F2 either isn't working or doesn't work through VNC. Additionally, the gnome commands in the post will not work through SSH because it can't find the gnome manager.

Thanks for you help guys!
