Is there really no linux for my Acer? :(

It's an Acer Aspire 5050 laptop.... from what I've been digging up on these forums, this model seems by far to be the worst thing ubuntu could ever run on because of hardware incompatibility...

So, is ubuntu the most compatible distro or are there other distros that will meet my hard-to-reach specs?

I've never seen the specs of a Acer Aspire 5050, but I know I have a Acer and could install Ubuntu with two things missing: Wireless and Sound. Doesn't make ANY diff. on Sabayon OR Gentoo.

Check out Distrowatch.com and start trying out LiveCD's.

I have owned a couple of Acer laptops in the past and Fedora, openSUSE and Ubuntu worked well. Best thing to do is try out a few live discs as suggested above.
