    fixing sound problems?

    Beware of rant...

I'm fed up with using one application and then trying to play music on another and it not working because one of the applications is trying to directly use the soundcard or it will use something other than Alsa or Pulseaudio.

What i want is a killer app that will make the said application use Alsa or Pulseaudio instead, or maybe will trick the application into thinking it's directly connected to the soundcard when actually it's using Pulseaudio!

Doesn't anyone else find it annoying? it drives me round the bend! especially when you cant find what program is already using audio and then you have to logoff and on again...

Hi. Which applications are giving you trouble? Try going to 'System->Preferences->Sound' and on the 'Devices' tab change the first four dropdown menus to 'PulseAudio Sound Server', then restart Ubuntu; see if that helps.
