    Best for what?

    For basic usage, XP Home with SP2 is probably the most suitable.

    32 bit works on 32 bit processors and 64 bit processors. I hear 64 bit XP isn't good.

    Home is probably the best if you don't need the extra fluff of media center edition or the specialized features of professional.

    SP2 is good, but I have SP3 on a comp and it is faster and works better, at least for me.
    Ubuntu = , but I = sometimes so I post s here and get answers then I because I get it ...
    but then I get again.
    Yup, that's pretty much how this place works

    XP Media might be what you want, but it depends on what media players you use.

    Professional has some features which should be in all version, but are not to make more money. If you aren't doing any fancy networking, you don't need professional, and it would be slower.

    if you don't pay for them (which I suspect , no offense here) Professional would be the choice

    Here's Microsoft's comparison of XP and Media Center versions:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...n/compare.mspx

    Whichever you choose I would go for the latest version for security and bug fixes, so Service Pack 3 (saves you downloading all the updates).
