Question Is Ubuntu no good for scanning ?

I really want to use Ubuntu rather that Windows for various reasons, but I can not get my Epson Perfection 1670 working at all ,or rather it worked once , then never again. I have spent considerable time going through threads on this forum , but there are many suggestions from obviously knowledgeable people , but no actual answer. So have I got to buy a new scanner , or go back to Windows ?

My 2480 works, had to download the windows driver and put it in a directory. I'll have to dig out the instructions I followed.
