    Smile [SOLVED]"long mode" error when trying to install 7.10 64x on dell laptop

    Specs: Dell Inspiron 6400
    # Intel Core Duo T2400 / 5 Mb Cache / 1.83 GHz / 667 MHZ FSB
    (# 15.4" Wide-screen XGA Display with Truelife)
    (# 150 Gb 5400 rpm Sata Hard Drive)
    (# 2 Gb DDR2 SDRAM / 553 MHZ)

    My problem is all based on my assumption that my dell, processor, should support a 64bit OS...

    In the past i have installed 86x 7.10 and upgraded to 8.04 (on same laptop), no problems and after trying suse and a few others still i found BIGU to be my fav and decided to try out 64x.

    [B]When installing however... i downloaded the cd and burnt at (i think) 4x, loading into my lappytop i selected "Start or install Ubuntu" and hit return.

    Kernel loaded.... np?

    BEEEP!! and a message reading "Your CPU does not support long mode. Use a 32bit distribution."

    Any Help or am i just rapping away the support time of this forums members, soz if i am...

    Ty though for any help that might be forthcoming

    P.S. <-- g8t emotes -->
    P.S.2.0 My Dell comes with so called Media Direct Buttons, I haven't got the "play/pause" "previous"/"next" track or "stop" buttons to work, anyone els ehave this problem?
