now join a channel... either type:
or open a channel join dialog box somewhere... I don't use xchat...Code:/join #ubuntu
You can also join more than one channel, so once you joint #ubuntu join #ubuntuforums with:
and instead of /join I think you chould also just write /jCode:/join #ubuntuforums
Are you trying to connect to an irc server at ubuntu.com or the FreeNode IRC server?
I connect to the FreeNode server (it's in the network list) and join #ubuntu from there
>>> /help for a list of commands (or in some clients: /commands).

Try opening port 113 on your router, (if you have one). It's to do with the IRC server asking for identification from xchat and xchat not being able to get a response back.
