guild wars fails to load floor

I just installed guild wars on my Gutsy Machine, and it runs, but very slowly. The real problem is that the floor of the map fails to load at all. I can live with the slowly part, but it gets very disorienting when I can't tell where I can or can't walk due to inclines and such.

wine 0.9.59 with Win 98 as the system
virtual desktop emulated with 1280X1024 res
Guild Wars Game of the Year Edition
512 mB of RAM

I had same problem update wine to 1.0rc2 or 1.0rc3 NOT 1.0rc1 or lower
