I personally like to use gtkpod to handle my iPod; it's in the repositories, though I'm not sure that's the latest version.

It will do neat stuff like removing duplicate tracks, volume normalizing (I don't like to use my iPod's built-in Sound Check),playlist creation, etc.

    Hope that helps!

If you have a iPod classic take a look at the HOWTO I made, it should answer most questions, otherwise feel free to post.

    @ Posburn,

Hey thanks for letting me know that you can also reduce the volume of the ipod through this software. I have a major problem with this. I get a lot of pain when i hear the music from the ipod built in speakers.

Does this function on all brands of ipods or only with Apple???

Ipods are only made by apple.

But, for I-thing users, 10.04 Lucid Lynx is going to offer some sort of support it appears
