I tried to use these instructions to upgrade the bios of a x201, which looked a lot easier than anything on http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/BIOS_Upgrade/X_Series
Like some other people, I was trying to install from an iso in the 20MB range and needed to use an offset when mounting it, using http://linux-thinkpad.10952.n7.nabbl...h-td20125.html as a guide. To fix "cp: failed to preserve ownership for `/media/EED3-FFBD/TPCHKS.EXE': Operation not permitted" I used
Code:
sudo cp -dRfv --preserve=mode,timestamps /mnt/cdrom/* /media/EED3-FFBD/
The newest iso is 6quj19us.iso but when mounted I saw a bunch of corrupted file names /mnt/cdrom, so I tried the next newest, 6quj18uc.iso which looked much cleaner. After getting everything setup (and trying many times) I booted with the USB stick, typed "command.com" at the prompt and got the error "Incorrect DOS version"
IncorrectDosVersion.jpg
To convince myself that everything else is working I tried the same procedure with X61 ISO 7nuj22uc.iso and I was able to start the upgrade program.
I tried the simple looking instructions in "X220 BIOS UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS - USB" (using geteltorito.pl) but got an "Missing operating system" error.
Hints welcome. Thank you.
