augh, it's been ages since i've used ubuntu, and i'm just trying to get back into it.
Unfortunately, I'm in vista, and can't give you direct instructions on how to do it. Either you'll have to wait until I can get back into Ubuntu (I'm at school right now), or perhaps someone else will wander into this thread and be able to help you out further.
I'm sorry

I figured it out. Im in synaptic package manager. Everything is clicked on/checked.
It seems, then, that ubuntu is not loading drivers for your wireless card.
Is there a message in the system tray about restricted modules? I can't recall at the moment exactly what it looks like (i think it looks like a pci card), but it should tell you something about restricted drivers, and whether or not to enable them) If so, try that first.
If not, this thread looks promising. I don't have time to read all the way through it, but give this thread a look-through and see if that helps you out.
Unfortunately, I have to leave right now, but hopefully that works, but if not, someone else should be able to help you out more.

rebooted, and it still doesnt show any wireless option in the network controller
You may want to install WICD, I've heard that it's much better than gnome's network manager.
