We are trying to install Ubuntu (or a variant) on a Thinkpad 600E. We've tried Ubuntu 8.04 and Xubuntu 7.04. The symptoms are pretty much the same on both. A Damn Small Linux LiveCD runs fine.

IBM Thinkpad 600E 2645-4AU
128MB memory (soon to be upgraded to max of 256MB)
Mobile Pentium II 366MHz
BIOS recently flashed to most recent
QuickBoot is disabled in BIOS
Currently running Win2K (installed it fresh about 1 week ago)

Trying to install Ubuntu 7.04 and will not complete and I've done the following steps:

1. Boot with the live CD
2. When the live CD boot menu appears, I highlight the first option (Start or Install Ubuntu...) then press F6 and enter the following: acpi=off pci=noacpi pnpbios=off vga=0x317
3. Everything starts off normal..the Ubuntu logo shows and with the bar below it scrolling (similar to Windows starting up).
4. Shortly thereafter, the Ubuntu logo and bar goes away and I get a blank screen with a blinking cursor in the top left corner.
5. After 1 hour, figured it was safe to say the install is hung.

What's odd is that both the CD and hard drive LED's continue to go on/off...so there is something going on.
I get the same results whether I try to install Ubuntu or xUbuntu.

Anybody who has successfully installed Ubuntu or Xubuntu on a 600E?

Is there any way to set a more verbose mode of install so we can find out where the install is hanging?

Thank you!
