I tried envy. I can't remember exactly what it said, but it was something along the lines of not having any support for my system.

Must've done something wrong the last time, because I tried it again and got a different output...still problematic though:

Aha you have not downloaded the headers for your kernel.
Find the headers in Synaptic that match your latest kernel and install them...
Also check which driver your graphics card is supported by??
http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree8...ppendix-a.html
Check which driver you should use .
This is odd, in synaptic, I already have linux-headers-2.6.28-11, but should I have 12? Also, I've noticed that on bootup, my grub still seems to only have Intrepid 8.10 and no Jaunty. I'm assuming this is probably a big source of my problems.
Just adding this:
to the top of menu.lst should do the trick?Code:title Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-11-generic uuid 7bd72270-3f33-4a86-91e9-9d14fcc9258b kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.28-11-generic root=UUID=7bd72270-3f33-4a86-91e9-9d14fcc9258b ro quiet splash initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.28-11-generic quiet title Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-11-generic (recovery mode) uuid 7bd72270-3f33-4a86-91e9-9d14fcc9258b kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.28-11-generic root=UUID=7bd72270-3f33-4a86-91e9-9d14fcc9258b ro single initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.28-11-generic

So envyng worked after that and I installed 173, as 180 didn't seem to support my card.
So, you were not actually booting Jaunty... and I guess then you had no headers for the kernel that you were booting into which stopped the Nvidia driver loading properly.... had you not discovered this you could have spent a long time bemoaning how Jaunty was no different to Hardy, maybe.....
