Cannot Press Num Lock on ThinkPad R40

My ThinkPad R40 requires pressing Shift+Scroll Lock for Num Lock

Ubuntu does not recognize that combination so I can never activate or release Num Lock using built-in keyboard.

The problem is sometimes I use an external USB keyboard and leave Numlock on until shutdown. When I go out and restart the system without external keyboard, I cannot relese Num Lock!

I have tried all possible keyboard layout for IBM but none has worked.

    Thank you

Re: Cannot Press Num Lock on ThinkPad R40

Thank you for your advice. I installed package call "numlockx" already. Because Num Lock is still on, I have to use on screen keyboard to type to release numlock.

Is there any method to make my computer recognize Num Lock key directly?
