    I can't get 1920x1200 resolution

    Hi,

    I have a:
    TFT Philips 24" 240BW8EB/00 screen
    VGA 512MB ASUS EAX1550 SILENT/TD/512MB DVI
    O.S. UBUNTU 7.10
    Kernel 2.6.22-14-generic

and when I start, the displayed resolution in the screen is
    1600x1200.
The problem is that if I go to SISTEM-ADMINISTRATION-SCREEN AND GRAPHICS menu it doesn't offers the possiblity to change to 1920x1200,
because the highest resolution that it offers is 1600x1200.

Please, could You help me to fix the 1920x1200?
    Many thanks.

    Rafel

    By the way,
if I edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf what we get is:
    ---------------------------------------------------------

    # xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
    #
    # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
    # values from the debconf database.
    #
    # Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page.
    # (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
    #
    # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
    # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
    # package.

what kind of video card do you have? if it is an older one, it might not support that resolution.

    Re: I can't get 1920x1200 resolution

I've been looking for an opportunity to post this information for others since I was unable to find specific info when I searched for it. I consider myself a linux noob, but I can tell you what I have and how I got 1920 x 1200 working.
I have a Sony GDM-FW900 24 inch widescreen CRT, and an ATI RADEON x1800xt graphics card. This is connected to the CRT through the VGA output, so I don't know if that is different than yours.
I had to manually enter new modelines for my xorg.conf
There are modeline calculators available online if you search, but the key problem that stuck me for a while was getting 1920x1200 at 85hz. refresh rate. This requires a specific pixel rate (which is the value after the screen dimensions in the modeline), which I was unable to find in the specs for my monitor.
Below is the modeline that works for me.
    modeline "1920x1200@85" 270.000 1920 1936 2096 2528 1200 1201 1204 1250

I recommend getting the specs you know from your monitor and plugging it into a web based modeline calculator. You will need to know your horizontal and vertical refresh rate specs and maybe a couple other things. As I said, the tough part for me was the pixel rate, higher resolution or higher refresh rates mean a higher pixel rate and obviously vice-versa.
I deleted the other modelines because I was having trouble having ubuntu start with my optimal resoultion and refresh rate. I think I should mention to be careful to backup your xorg file and also that invalid rates and signals to your monitor can probably cause it to have problems.
