    Help?

    Hello all:
I tend to need this forum more than I can help. Am installing latest version of Ubuntu (8.04) and keep getting this "To run a command as administrator..." and it seems like some sort of GRUB error *whatever that is. I've installed Ubuntu on other systems and it's flown through no problems, but this one has me flummoxed.
Have tried both types of installs (x86 and the other one.)
    Here's the details:
    Averatec computer Model 3250
60 GB HD, 512 MB RAM, i686 (or x686, whatever)
Downloaded install cd and tried to install it, but keep getting the prompt to run a command as admin...
Tried supergrub but that's no use
can't get into bios to change it
can't login to use regular xp (long story, brother thought he could just up and mess with my computer...)
freaking out now....just about to lose my computer?

I know it is trivial because you have expirience with Ubuntu but did you check md5sum and disc integrity? If that is O.K and you still can not install Hardy try with alternate CD.

I checked the disk and the download was fine. How do I get the alternate cd?

    Here
You will see this text below start download sign

Check here if you need the alternate desktop CD. This CD does not include the Live CD, instead it uses a text-based installer.
