Pioneer DVR-112D DVD±RW fails to read and burn CDs

I recently did a clean reinstall of Hardy. I cannot read and burn CDs. Reading and burning DVDs works fine. (I had to burn the CD image on a DVD to do a clean reinstall of Hardy.) Previously this Pioneer DVR-112D DVD±RW worked fine with CDs under previous versions of Ubuntu. I have searched on Ubuntu forums and elsewhere. The only "solutions" I have found is to replace the thing. Does anyone else have another solution.

What error do you get when you try to read/burn CDs? Are you trying to burn CDs on "dao" mode; if so, try "auto" mode. Which program are you using for burning CDs?

It's funny that you can burn DVDs fine but not CDs. Guess your answers to the above will provide further clues.

Thanks. Well, it looks like the problem was with the DVD burner. Now it no longer works at all and apparently shorted out. I'll have to replace it.
