Hard Drive Advice A.K.A I Dropped My Laptop!
I dropped my laptop last night and it froze up. When I forced a restart the boot screen showed a corrupted file system in my home partition, with the error "Buffer I/O Error". I assume the read/write heads touched the platters and corrupted some data.
I'm posting from the laptop right now and most of it seems OK. I can even play some of the videos that are stored on the HDD (some of them skip or freeze) so the hardware isn't completely destroyed I guess. So, I was wondering, is this hard drive now forever corrupted in those sectors or, if I format it, can I reinstall my OS and carry on using it happily?
