[SOLVED] unstalling Kubuntu-desktop

I installed ubuntu 8.04, and through i might wanna give the kubuntu-desktop a try. i installed the kubuntu-desktop package via synaptic (along with everything that came with it.

Decided to keep the ubuntu desktop and gnome, is there a way to completely uninstall all of the packages that came with the kubuntu desktop package without having to go through them all one by one? Right now my applications menu is chock full of stuff i dont need.

Navigate to:

System->Administration->Synaptic Package Manager

Search for the "KDE Desktop" string in the Search Box.
When search completes, scroll down and locate "kde" Description will be "the K Desktop Environment Official modules"....

Right on the item and Click/Mark for Complete Removal.

Hit Apply button at the top to remove/uninstall.

After execute this command in terminal, kde is uninstalled from my machine, but there's something wrong with Totem Movie Player. Now when i double click on an avi file, the player asks for "Search for suitable codec?". But when i click the "Search" button, there's an error with a following warning:

Failed to check for installed and available applications

This is a major failure of your software management system. Please check for broken packages with synaptic, check the file permissions and correctness of the file '/etc/apt/sources.list' and reload the software information with: 'sudo apt-get update' and 'sudo apt-get install -f'.

I followed the instructions, but the issue was not resolved.
