live cd and compiz messing hardware?

Running Ubuntu 8 live cd on my macbook, my brother ran the command "compiz" on terminal, after which it threw up a bunch of data and ubuntu started messing up the graphics. I then restarted and booted into os x and everything is normal, but i wonder, could running "compiz" on terminal have messed up in any way with the hardware configuration of my mac, affecting os x or anything?

    no.

Compiz won't work unless 3D acceleration is working, and that would likely not be working without doing an install as you need the proprietary drivers.
