Well, the amd turion dual core easily supports the 64 bit, but you will run into a few issues (especially with flash, which will require you to download and use the 32 bit version of firefox, etc.) and yes, it is possible to run the ISO off a USB stick

I'm not entirely sure (since i don't run 64bit) but i have heard of things such as the flashplayer only existing for 32bit, meaning you will have to install firefox 32 bit (including the libraries associated with that) for flash, and there are a few other issues (i believe) with having to install other 32 bit apps. Not entirely sure, maybe someone with 64bit can tell you more.

Yeah, that's my processor, just i use 32 bit Ubuntu. It's just not as fast as a 64 bit system would be during taxing processing jobs (minimal difference), but i find my 32 bit system to be more than fast enough for what i need, and i don't need support for more than 3.1GB of RAM. (Only 2 real benefits i see to 64 bit)

for most tasks, you will not notice any difference in speed. the only time things will be faster, is during large number crunching jobs such as encoding/decoding large video files. even then, the difference is small. your computer will not magically become quicker just because you are using 64bit ubuntu.

Cool Re: Can I boot Ubuntu 8.04 using a flashdrive?

I'm also trying to do this, in
    Step Two: Partitioning the drive
Before insterting your USB drive, go to System > Preferences > Removable Drives and Media and uncheck the checkboxes next to "Automount drives when hotplugged" and "Automount drives when insterted" I have no options as
far as checkboxes in "Automount drives".
