    Desktop Effects on macbook pro?

I am pretty new to the whole linux/ ubuntu/ open source stuff but I got Hardy up and running fine on my macbook pro with almost everything working correctly. The only problem I seem to be having is when I go to turn on desktop effects, it just says that it cannot be done.

    suggestions?

I am fairly sure that I do, but it is quite possible that I either don't have the right driver for my video card or it is just unsupported (I have a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 512 MB)

I don't have a solution for you, but I can tell you that the card should work because I have the same card and it is working. When I installed Hardy, I tried to turn on advanced desktop effects and a dialog popped up telling me that I needed to install a driver and it showed the driver I needed. I think I clicked yes to enable the restricted repos, and then a reboot later it was working.
