    Best remote for Mythbuntu 8.04?

    Hi

I was wondering what types of remotes people have found to be trouble free and easy to setup?

Ive been advised that the Microsoft MCE remote is the best, but I would prefer not to have a Microsoft logo on my remote...

    Cheers

I have one and it does seem well behaved, although the button setup is a bit weird.

I tried to install the remote keyboard as well, using some obfuscated instructions in linux jargonese that were absolutely meaningless to this O.F.. All I managed to do was to demonstrate how easy it is to bring the whole show down in a massive fireworks display. Lets thank the gods for Acronis image backup

Ive got a Microsoft remote control and usb receiver, it worked out of the box with 8.04. Also a keysonic wireless mini keyboard with touch pad this works like a standard usb keyboard so no drivers or setup.

I second the MCE remote, it does a good job, eventhough it comes from MS

One option is the Streamzap remote, available from Amazon for $30.

The Microsoft MCEUSB2 remote is a superior remote. You need to realize that MS does make great hardware, even if their software is crap.

Alternatively you could get a serial IR adapter and use any remote you want.

+1 for the Streamzap Remote. Very easy to use and is very well supported.

I also like the MCE remotes from M$ I have two of them, however, I bought a few months ago a Sony Programmable remote that is also 'teachable'. It's really nice however it doesn't have chapter forward/back buttons which are its only downfall. I may sell the one I have on ebay for a bigger sony one with more buttons.

The only thing I don't like about the MCE remotes is I cannot use them with my apex tv to control 'standard' tv viewing and DVDs ...i'm not totally live yet with Mythbuntu but it's becoming a staple of life!

Ive ordered a Microsoft MCE remote. I just want something that will work straight out of the box with Mybuntu (ive already invested a lot of time in my Myth box).

I am also lucky enough to own a eee PC which among other things will be used to do some of the more complicated admin type tasks via VNC remote desktop.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I've got an Imon Pad and he pad is awful!
It puts out different codes because it's trying to provide mouse type coding and lirc doesn't cope too well with that.
