    fsck died ?

My neighbors PC running Ubuntu 7.04 w/ Athlon 1400 and 768RAM has been locking up lately and now it's dead. This photo shows the message that comes up as it boots up.

Is this dead? can it be salvaged?

I tried to boot up with a live CD Xubuntu 8.04 but it couldn't see the wifi card and it couldn't mount the hdd so we could copy some files to a usb stick.

If we can fix this that would be great. If not we'll have to reinstall Ubuntu and start over.

    Thanks

What is the filetype and location of the hard-disk that fsck is trying to scan?

    Regards
