[SOLVED] Low resolution with Nvidia 7300 GS

    Hi,
I installed Hardy the day it came out. It detected my resolution correctly (as well as all my other hardware). I have had no problems until yesterday, when my resolution dropped to 800x600. I am not using Nvidia's proprietary driver. (I tried that, and it drops my resolution to 640x480)

    Here's my xorg.conf:
    Code:
    # xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file)
    #
    # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
    # values from the debconf database.
    #
    # Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page.
    # (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
    #
    # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
    # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
    # package.
    #
    # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
    # again, run the following command:
    # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

ViewSonic VX924. It should be running at 1280x1024.

Re: Low resolution with Nvidia 7300 GS

What worked for me with the restricted drivers was to enable screens and graphics (hidden in Other, enabled from edit menus)
Your monitor isn't listed so i don't know if it will be of any value. There is a listing for the vx910 - maybe compare the specs of the two on viewsonic website, if the important things are the same maybe you could use that.
If you do and things work out before restarting check your xorg for 2 things
    Code:
    Section "Device"
    	Identifier	"Configured Video Device"
    	Boardname	"NVIDIA GeForce 7 Series"
    	Busid "PCI:1:0:0"
    	Driver "nvidia"
    	Screen	0
    	Vendorname	"NVIDIA"
            Option "DynamicTwinView" "False"
            Option "AddARGBVisuals"	"True"
            Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals"	"True"
    	Option "NoLogo"	"True"
the DynamicTwinView false sometimes is needed to get proper refresh rates, the 2 lines below that are good to have but optional. Edit; forgot you have an lcd - the twinview may not be needed
    Code:
    modeline "2048x1536@60" 266.95 2048 2200 2424 2800 1536 1537 1540 1589 -hsync +vsync
    	Gamma	1.0
    EndSection

    Section "Screen"
    	Identifier	"Default Screen"
    	Device "Configured Video Device"
    	Monitor "Configured Monitor"
    	Defaultdepth	24
    	SubSection "Display"
    		Depth	24
    		Virtual	1280	1024
If the values for virtual are to high it may be hard to see login box, mine was set to 2048 1536 - changing to 1280 1024 fixed it. (it's set by default to the last modeline - with an lcd maybe it will be correct, check though)

you should let envyNG install the drivers for you. it will find the right drivers for your hardware and install it. just go to synaptic and search for envy gtk
Thous who can't do teach and thous who can't teach use WinBlows

Re: Low resolution with Nvidia 7300 GS

I tired your suggestion and I got an error about low-resolution. However, I successfully configured X through that menu.
